Groups call for action from MA Governor

After the January 1st scram, and then the February 15th shutdown at Pilgrim during the two winter storms, Cape Downwinders, MA Downwinders, Boston Downwinders, MAPA, Occupy Hingham, and On Behalf of Planet Earth hand delivered a letter to the Governor on March 11, 2015 calling on him to follow with a letter to the NRC as his predecessor Governor Patrick had done on our behalf.

The letter included two requests: 1. to follow up on a letter to the NRC to call for closing Pilgrim because public safety cannot be assured, and 2. to investigate the scram and shutdown that both involved failure of equipment and put the public at risk.

At the State House, we were met by Assistant Chief of Staff Mindy d’Arbeloff and requested a meeting with the Governor. One follow up phone call resulted in a next day response by the governor’s office for a meeting with the MA Emergency Management Agency and Office of the Environment and Energy. We appreciate the prompt response and look forward to our meeting on May 20, 2015.
